Bligh Government to upgrade Cooroy-Noosa Road

THE QUEENSLAND Government has awarded a $4.7m contract to Neumann Contractors to upgrade Cooroy-Noosa Road between Swift Drive and Hayward Road West at Lake MacDonald.

The upgrade is scheduled to start in the next few weeks and should be complete by the end of 2009.

The state government says the road will be strengthened and widened to improve safety and driving conditions for the 9,900 vehicles which use it each day.

The new road will be offset to the south of the existing road alignment to minimise any impact on the adjacent forest during construction.

The project involves creating two 3.5m lanes and a two metre shoulder on each side. The development is also expected to significantly improve the safety of cyclists, with whom Cooroy-Noosa Road is popular.

A new asphalt surface will be laid which will be more resistant to wear and tear than the current surface.
