Queenslands Oaky Creek Bridge $1.85m upgrade begins on 1.86km of new approaches

QUEENSLAND Minister for Main Roads, Craig Wallace says on 19 October work began on the 1.86km of new approaches to Oaky Creek Bridge on Inglewood-Texas Road.

According to the Minister, works for $1.85m safety upgrade to the Bridge includes the reconfiguration of the road alignment and re-sealing. Works will be carried out by Goondiwindi Regional Council on behalf of Dot, with completions scheduled in May 2010.

The Minister says the existing timber Oaky Creek Bridge was currently being replaced with a new concrete bridge, with works expected to finish in the next couple of weeks. It is one of more than 100 timber bridges across the state to be replaced by 2010 under the Government's $350m Regional Bridge Renewal Program.

Wallace says the timber from the existing bridge will be recovered by the department's construction arm RoadTek, to be used in the rehabilitation of other timber bridges in the region.
