Queensland is showcasing infrastructure careers for the future

QUEENSLAND Minister for Main Roads, Craig Wallace says an education program showcasing western corridor transport projects to Ipswich secondary students was officially launched on 4 August.

According to the Minister, the program is designed to help high school students decide their future pathway through informative and interactive visits to some of the major infrastructure projects underway in south-east Queensland.

The Minister says the High School Site Visits are interactive information sessions, it will provide valuable job information and an understanding of the careers available within the transport and roads infrastructure industry.

Wallace says visiting a major construction site will provide students with tangible evidence of what the results of maths and science can achieve, such as assisting towards a career as a civil engineer.

Department of Transport and Main Roads Director-General Dave Stewart says the western corridor project highlighted a variety of career opportunities including town planning, civil design and engineering. It also highlighted professions like a construction technician, environmental officer and a spatial science specialist.
