SA's local road freight routes to be upgraded this financial year

THE SA State Government has allocated $500,000 this financial year towards upgrading selected local roads under the Regional Roads Program. The Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI) is working with councils to provide funding for the selected local roads to improve efficiency and safety.

The Regional Roads Program, which has been running since 2000, has this year been refocussed to ensure high priority local road freight routes that require upgrades or maintenance of a minor nature are not overlooked.
In 2009/10 the State Government has allocated:
o $47,500 towards upgrading the Port Pirie Wharf Junction (including pavement planning and re-instatement of the junction area).
o $100,000 towards the completion of Pedder Crescent, Regency Park (including the installation of road lighting and alterations to kerbing on the splitter islands).
o $352,500 towards the design and construction of left turn slip lanes including all associated works for the intersections on Cockaleechie Road, Cummins, Wildeloo Road, Cummins, Procter Road, Karkoo, and Archie Griffiths Road, Karkoo, with the Tod Highway.
The Regional Roads Program was established to promote and support regional development across South Australia. The Program achieves this by assisting Local Government in upgrading selected local roads in areas that perform an important strategic and/or economic role for SA.
