Work to start on Warrego Highway and Brisbane Valley Highway interchange

QUEENSLAND Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace recently announced a $1 million safety improvement upgrade for the Warrego Highway and Brisbane Valley Highway interchange. Works have commenced with completion expected by early next year, weather permitting.

The highway interchange works will extend the right-turn lane for motorists travelling westbound from the Warrego Highway onto the Brisbane Valley Highway. With the steady increase of population in the Ipswich area, there has also been a significant increase in the volume of traffic travelling westbound through this intersection towards Toowoomba, Gatton and Fernvale.
The right-turn lane will be extended by a further 200m, which will reduce the number of vehicles required to slow down or stop on the fast lane of the Warrego Highway in order to turn right onto Brisbane Valley Highway. This will provide safer shelter for turning vehicles from through traffic.
Some additional works on top of the extension of the right hand turning lane would be carried out. This will involve the banning of right turn movements by west bound traffic off the Warrego Highway and on to the Wulkuraka Connection Road. This has been necessary due to the unsafe nature of the manoeuvre.
