LOCAL Government Minister Desley Boyle has announced $140,336 in additional disaster assistance for Etheridge Shire Council to help cover the cost of repairs completed in aftermath of flooding in Queensland earlier this year.
"The flooding that soaked northern and western Queensland during January and February of this year did significant damage throughout the Etheridge Shire," Boyle said. This final claim reimburses council for part of the costs incurred for emergency works and post-disaster repairs, including grading as well as the removal of vegetation, debris and silt from local roads.
In the aftermath of the flooding the council acted swiftly to get the roads repaired so people could get around the shire. In a remote shire like Etheridge people are heavily reliant on roads to access many of the things people in other parts of Queensland take for granted.
This additional payment comes on top of the $10.92 million allocated to council in August, and the $408,862 granted in June. Etheridge Shire Council has also played its part by contributing $50,000.
