More funding for Aramac Torrens Creek Road upgrade

THE Queensland Government will invest a further $5 million in the upgrade of the Aramac-Torrens Creek Road in the state’s west to help complete the sealing program.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the additional funding would ensure sealing and widening work on the 123 km stretch of road would continue in 2010.
The project, which began in 2007, is to widen and seal 123 km of the road in six stages resulting in a fully sealed link between Aramac and the Flinders Highway at Torrens Creek.
Wallace has also given a commitment to host a meeting of the Mayors of the Central Highlands, Isaacs and Barcaldine regional councils in Emerald in early 2010 to discuss roads issues.
One of the main topics on the agenda will be to discuss the impacts of the mining industry on the road networks in the Central Highlands and Central West region.
